megan & matt {engaged}

I'm feeling all nostalgic while writing this post...you see, Megan is my dear friend and roommate (we've lived together for FOUR YEARS!), and while I'm absolutely so happy that she's getting married to Matt (who is one of those guys that makes you think, "I didn't think there were any guys like that left."), I know I'm going to be so sad when we go our separate ways. We've shared houses/apartments, dance parties, trips to the beach, movie nights, countless conversations about life and love, chick-fil-a dinners, cups of coffee, and SO. MUCH. LAUGHTER. She's got such amazing gifts, and she helps me stay grounded yet lighthearted. The Lord completely blessed me with a friend like Megan.

I really am SO excited for she and Matt as they prepare for their marriage and life together. They complement each other so well, and have the most caring and genuine hearts. You couldn't ask for a better match.

Friends, I am so crazy happy for you as you start your lives together. I love you both so much, and you've both impacted my lives in such deep and profound ways. Megan, I just love you so much and thank you for being such an amazing friend throughout the years. You guys had better have a couch or something available for me, because you know I'm going to be visiting all the time! :] I hope you love your photos. Much love and blessings.

sarah & chad {sneak peek}

Meet the most beautiful couple ever. And when I say beautiful, I mean inside and out. Wowza! I can't wait to share their entire session with you, and I especially can't wait to tell you what I learned about life from these amazing people. For now, let this happy, sun soaked photo tide you over. :)

kiki & ken {engaged}

 When Ken & Kiki first contacted me about their wedding photography, I KNEW I would love working with them. Both creatives. Both graphic designers. Both completely talented. Yes, I knew I would love working with them. The day of their engagement session came...and it was COLD! But we made up for it by goofing off and laughing at just about everything (including me backing my precious 4runner into a telephone pole guide wire...dang it). Scott came along to shoot with me, and it felt like we were all on a double date...so much fun. I think we all found about a million things we had in common. :)

 {below, left} Photo inspired by my lovely friend Erin of ee photography. Here's to you, friend!

{below, top left} Check out how long that scarf is! Ken educated Scott and I on it's history. Anyone know what it's from? Anyone?

K&K, we had so much fun with you two. I think you guys are going to be those people who just have way too much fun in marriage. Your humor with each other is so refreshing and awesome! Thanks for being amazing, braving the cold, and running out into that field again...and again...and again. :) Can't wait for your wedding!

kiki & ken {sneak peek}

Last week, I finished reading one of the greatest books I've ever read: A Million Miles in a Thousand Years by Donald Miller. If I can ever inspire you to do one thing, I hope it's to go buy this book and read it. I have such a respect for authors. Every blog post I make, I struggle to put my words together in a cohesive and meaningful way...So when I read an entire book of cohesive and meaningful words, I'm just amazed, and so thankful that some people in this world are gifted with writing!

I have this theory that no matter what job/career/vocation we have in life, we eventually start to think it's not meaningful. We look at other people doing seemingly bigger things, and compare, and think we aren't changing the world. Or we look at just how many other people in the world are doing the EXACT SAME thing we're doing, and feel like what we're doing isn't all that special.

I work with an amazing bookkeeper who has mentioned that she doesn't feel like she does anything important because her job revolves around repetitive daily tasks. I was slightly taken aback when I heard this, because to me, she's my saving grace! My business would be a giant mess if it weren't for her smarts and ability to come in and make sense of things. To her, her job was so familiar that she forgot that there are lots of people out there who are terrible at math and finances (like me) and need her help. :)

So, what I'm trying to say here: What you do is not meaningless. We are all blessed with different gifts, brains, talents; we all need each other. I'm so thankful for people out there who can write a powerfully thought provoking book, perfectly balance a budget, and all the other things that people contribute to society that makes my life the way it is. To all of you people out there, THANK YOU for what you do! The world really wouldn't be the same without you.

I had the awesome privilege of hanging out with Kiki and Ken for an afternoon, shooting engagement photos. I don't think I've ever asked for as many crazy poses and such as much as I did with them! K&K thank you so much for being SO FUN and up for it all! :) At one point, I had them run out into a field of super tall grass with their quilts flying back behind them (it was a freezing day!). I love, love, love the result, and had to share it.

The photo also made me think of a line from the book by Donald Miller (that you really need to go buy): "Intentionally create a memorable life...When we look back on our lives, what we will remember are the crazy things we did, the times we worked harder to make a day stand out." I've had tons of great conversations in coffee shops, but the conversations that I remember the most are the ones where I was sitting on the roof of my house watching the sun rise, or the ones where I was sitting in the hot tub of an apartment complex where we had to jump the fence to get into.

I'm secretly hoping that running out into that field like crazy created a memory for K&K. What will you do today to make your day stand out?

anna & garrett {engaged}

Since decorating the house for Christmas, working from home is so much more pleasant! At any time I can turn around and see a happily lit Christmas tree, and it just makes me smile. I love slowing down and savoring this season. This year I scheduled myself super lightly, without any holiday weddings...it's going to be an amazing season. Can't wait to spend time doing non-computer things like reading books, building fires, and seeing my family. Life is just so beautiful.

And speaking of beautiful, you really need to meet Anna and Garrett. :) Anna and I have actually been friends since...well forever! Anna is truly amazing; she's graceful and compassionate and just makes people feel at ease. I was honored and happy beyond anything that she and Garrett asked me to be their wedding photographer. They are planning a lovely June wedding, and we actually got to take some of their engagement photos on the site where they'll exchange vows! So happy!

By the way, this is probably the longest post in the history of the CPJ blog! I couldn't narrow down favorites...loved them all! Strap in! :)

{below} So gorgeous, Anna! I did a little more processing than my usual style (including some texture layers! what do you think?) but I just can't get over how Anthro this image looks! I also have to share a little back-story with you: We were between shots when Anna noticed a bothersome weed and started to pull it--totally not posed--it looked just like this image below and was so beautiful that I suddenly was all, "OhMyGosh just KEEP doing that! It's perfect!!" (Remember? I told you she was graceful!) Anyway, so since we got an individual shot of her, I wanted one of Garrett too. What happened next pretty much made my week! He sat right down in the chair and mimicked Anna's graceful, girly pose EXACTLY. It was so awesome! And while I DID in fact snap a shot of it, I figure I'll let him decide whether or not he wants the world to see it...but just know...his awesome sense of humor was spot on!

 {below} I love the slight out of focus romance to this shot.

{below} YES! Anna raises chickens! When they mentioned taking some photos with them, and confidently waltzed into the pen, I hung back having visions of wild chickens trying to peck my eyes out (don't ask me why), but Anna and Garrett coaxed me in. Turns out, these chickens are amazing and really sweet (and pretty!). My eyes were totally safe. :)

{below} The Mustache. It doesn't get any better. Anna and Garrett, thanks for indulging me and being so much fun! :)

{below} I love the Fall color! Anna actually planned our session so that we'd hit the leaf color changing at it's peak! Perfect!

Anna and Garrett, oh I could just hug you two! It's so fun to be a part of this time in your lives. You both have such beautiful hearts, and your individual passions truly compliment each other. Your happiness at simply being together was so evident and inspiring. I hope you love your photos! I'm so looking forward to all that's coming up in the next year! Much love, Caroline
