heart heart {personal}

Okay, confession: I am one of those people who LOVES Valentine's day. Who cares that I've spent lots of V-days without a significant other...I still adore it. A holiday about love?! I'll take it! I'm not so much about the ultra sappy part, but I've always been beautifully blessed to have so much love in my life worth celebrating--friends, family, and yes, my Lord Jesus. We should celebrate (and live) love every day. V-day always helps remind me of this.

Here's a little walk through my Valentine's day weekend, via the worst video ever made. :-D Seriously, the quality and everything is just THE worst. I am no videographer. But I still wanted to share, because, my goodness, it brings the biggest smile to my face. Scott and I went to Austin to visit his brother, and we had so much fun. Enjoy an unedited peek into our [very silly] weekend. And note the part where we see the first photograph ever taken! That was a surprise planned out by Scott, and I loved it! :-)

Scott's gift for me this weekend was the best! An Anthropologie skirt and shirt that are just delightful! (And a super sweet card as well. :-) ) Hope your Valentine's day was lovely!

{january DIY wedding contest}

I'm so happy to announce the first contest of 2010! :)
Last year, creative brides taught us that gloroius weddings can be achieved without breaking the bank. We fell in love with savvy ideas like: holding the ceremony under a giant oak tree, wearing a family heirloom wedding dress instead of buying a new one, and creating a stylishly mismatched bridal party with dresses the girls already owned.
This year, budgets may be limited once again, but your creativity certainly isn’t! It’s time for a fresh crop of inspiring wedding ideas! Caroline Joy Photography wants to hear all your brilliant, creative, eco-friendly, or DIY wedding ideas: smart, savvy ways to save money, while adding beau-coups of style and personality to your wedding.
Here's how it works:
-Submit your best ideas to { info@carolinejoyphotography.com } or use the "connect" tab at the top of the page. Use lots of detail when describing your idea! Subject of your message should be "DIY contest"
-On January 9th, polls open and YOU get to vote on your favorite idea!
-And what's a contest without sweet a prize?! The lovely winner will receive a $25 Anthropologie gift card!

Tell anyone getting married, because when the winner is announced, I'll feature all of the best ideas I received. It will be like a wedding inspiration party!
So get started on your wonderful ideas! :)

{october contest winner}

Salt Lake City. That's where my magic movie maker is at this moment, and that's my lame explanation for not having some sort of amazing video like last month. I laid in bed all morning trying to come up with some brilliant way to announce the winner. Nothin'. So I poured myself some coffee, put the names in a bowl and drew a slip of paper. OH BOY! Knowing this was about to make someone's day, I got a little crafty and here's my non-video-but-still-kinda-cool announcement of the winner.

Thank you, all you lovely people, for entering! I especially loved those of you who blogged your favorite fall traditions. They were so fun and inspiring to read. :)

Note to self: It might be of value to actually read the words on the page you are photographing...because I didn't until I got this photo into Lightroom...whatever is happening on this page sounds plain weird. So, old books from thrift stores DO look cool on your coffee table, but you just have to wonder...what's inside?

:D

Congrats Nancy!! I got a huge smile on my face when your name was drawn! Your anthro card will be in the mail soon my friend! :)

Annd since I didn't have a video myself, I thought I'd point you to a stunning stop-motion vid! Enjoy!

inspirations: november edition

And a lovely November to you! I'm enjoying Autumn much more than usual this year, and I'm not really ready to stop all that enjoyment for Winter. This months inspirations still reflect much more of an Autumn tone than a Winter one. So here we go!

1. IN. LOVE. with this idea. It's pretty self explanatory, but if you need a hint: Danni came up with the brilliant idea of using locket rings with tiny notes placed inside to ask that dear question. I love the thoughtfulness, irony, and quirky-ness of it.

2. Here's something wintery! I opted to go with a bolder option this year...best choice ever. This lovely is from Old Navy of all places and is priced just right! Although a little hesitant about my decision at first, I felt totally justified while watching Breakfast at Tiffany's. Who should be wearing a similar orange coat but Audrey Hepburn?

3. Art, Bottle Caps, Love. Feel the crafty take hold and make your own.

4. Dear Bank Account, I'm sorry for spending all my money at Modcloth. How's a girl to pass up a dress with a name like "Ces't la vie"?

5 & 6. I was slightly star struck (pun intended) when I wrote to Jasmine Star asking if I could feature one of her photos this month. She wrote the nicest eMail back to me, proving that she's not only a fabulous photographer that you definitely need to blog stalk...but she's kind and friendly too. Win win! Thanks Jasmine! I fell head over heels with these images, and that outfit! The colors, the scarf, the coffee...it all works together so wonderfully! Lesson learned: Don't be shy when picking outfits for photographs. If you wear it with confidence, you'll be amazing.

7. It just makes the world go round when couples encourage their guests to loosen up at receptions. Sometimes a bump in the right direction is all it takes. If you'd rather give a shove in the right direction, try offering a crisp $100 bill to the worst dancer on the floor. Guaranteed break-downage.
