time to vote on your favorite idea!

**UPDATE** Polls are officially closed! We have a winner! Congrats Lindsey! Watch for the full blog post coming soon with EVERYONE'S creative, savvy wedding ideas. Thanks for voting!

I received so many wonderful ideas for the DIY wedding contest! It was so hard to narrow down to these 5 favorites. For those of you whose idea was selected, now’s the time to spread the word and tell your friends to come vote for your idea! The polls will be open until January 12 at midnight. The person whose idea receives the most votes will win a $25 Anthropologie gift card!

Don’t forget, once the polls are closed and the winner announced, I’ll share EVERYONE’S wedding ideas plus a few of my own! Come back for lots of creative, savvy ideas for your wedding.

The Top 5 Ideas:

1. Handmade Fabric Flowers & Poms

Instead of spending a ton of money on flowers, I want to create my own out of fabric.  Thrift stores have some great printed sheets and pillow cases that you could buy and create into fabric pom decor (or fabric flower garlands, or fabric banners to decorate an outdoor/plain wedding site, fabric streamers for the guest to wave as the couple leave).  Using used or new fabric could save on the expensive cost of flowers, prevent the waste of flowers that are used for one simple event, and just be fun to make... ok maybe they would be fun to make for the first 15 minutes...and then it might get annoying :-) Even though I'm not engaged, I'm just getting so darn excited about my flower-free-all-fabric wedding! –Erin James

2. Share With Friends via A Wedding Box

Several of my closest girlfriends have created, what is affectionately known as, “the wedding box.” This box contains extra tulle, candles, votive holders, toasting flutes, and more!  We all love sharing items that were used at each other’s big days! Don’t be afraid to borrow from friends! It’s shocking how excited people are to let friends borrow items that everyone needs for weddings. –Lindsey Snodgrass

3. Handmade Cross With Personal Significance

I just recently got married and we had a destination beach wedding on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. To bring in a little of the traditional church feel, we made a cross from reclaimed wood. Then we covered the entire cross with shells picked from the beach in Florida, where I am from. Our wedding was just recently featured in The Knot, NC and the cross made it in there...so I would say we were pretty pleased with how it turned out. My sister also got married this past year, but at the mountains in the fall. We did the same thing for her, but covered her cross in mossy grass and tied a coordinating ribbon around it. –Paige Coltrera

4. Cash Prize To Encourage Dancing

Here's a tip if your crazy about dancing! To help get the party hoppin', have a little dance contest with a cash prize ($25 bucks is enough to get people movin' to the groovin'). If you’re in a group of nervous or not-so-talented dancers, offer the prize to the worst or goofiest dancer. It'll be sure to get some laughs and everyone on the dance floor. –Cherith Newman

5. Handmade Cards For Bridesmaids

Make your bridesmaids feel SUPER special! Rather than just asking them to be your bridesmaids, get super crafty and ask them with a sweet card or fold out paper girls like in the photo.  I did this for my bridesmaids and it made the girls feel so special. We are all really close anyway, but this gesture was really memorable. –Cara Smith

I heart them all, but I just adore the bridesmaid invitation! I'm making something adorable like that for my girls right now, I'm so inspired! I love love love it and can't wait to make them feel super loved and special too!

BTW, I'm using that one (the bridesmaid invites) right now, BUT I equally love the cross....... we got engaged at the Outer Banks this past Autumn and collected a bunch of shells, and we are new in our faith... leading me toward using this idea too! Beautiful!
